Finding Community in the Journey
As our population with special needs ages, it has become apparent that the need for support for those encountering the challenges of memory loss is crucial. The unique needs of the caregivers and those needing care present new territories and landscapes that need new tools and guides.
This is what prompted our visit to The Memory Hub located at 1021 Columbia St, Seattle, WA 98104 . We found out about this community center from the Frye Art Museum, which is a partner of The Memory Hub. The Memory Hub is operated by UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, with partners with the Alzheimer’s Association, Elderwise, and Full Life Care.
The Memory Hub offers programs for people with memory loss, their families, and all who support a dementia-friendly community. They are open to the public 9am-3pm Tues, Weds, & Thurs. The space is beautiful featuring a memory garden to engage the senses, resource library and rotating art gallery featuring artwork made by people with dementia and their families.
Over 10 different programs are offered through and at the Memory Hub including Alzheimer’s Café every 2nd Tues. 2:30- 4pm . This is a fun opportunity for people to enjoy companionship, art discussion, live music, and refreshments. Another Memory Hub program which Art For All is going to be tapping into is Dementia Friends. We will be hosting a free session soon where our friends can learn about dementia, communication strategies, ways to engage, resources, and support.
Our Art For All team is dedicated to discovering new methods to assist our friends and their families. We are thrilled to share that Mary has successfully finished the Timeslips Facilitator training. As a result, we are delighted to introduce this exclusive small group opportunity to our community.
